Journal

It’s been almost a year since we said goodbye to our Etsy shop. A year away from fussing over orders, shipments and accounting has given me much headspace to reflect on our journey and unexpected success as a small business.

It all started with a small statement speckled body vase, which held but a bud or two, but seemed to spark joy in the hearts of Etsy shoppers during the miserable advent of lockdown.

The body vase became a quick favorite on Etsy and in the short span of a month, we had our first Bestseller (which was featured on Rikke Krefting’s Instagram page (!):

People just seemed to love the body vase and her unique aestheticism; it seemed that during lockdown, many had sought solace in beautifying their interiors and creating their own sanctuary at home.

Even amidst shipping embargoes and delays, the joy of receiving a unique product seemed to outweigh the small COVID-related challenges. We continued to have new Bestsellers month on month, and a wave of positive reviews (with many customers posting photos of our homewares in their new homes, which we absolutely love to see). By the end of our first year, we realized that with many returning customers, we had grown an online community.

Despite our unexpected success with our Etsy shop, as our brand grew, we increasingly desired independence and certainty, which we increasingly found impossible to achieve on the Etsy platform.

We are grateful to Etsy for helping us to jumpstart our small business and for its impressive flow of visitorship, but with its ever-changing policies and seller fee hikes, we decided in 2023 that it was time to bid adieu.

Three and a half years later, here we are with a brand new concept, and a dotCom.
